Sedation Dentistry

Ignoring your oral health due to fear is not in your best interest. People who experience severe anxiety when they think about dental treatments benefit from sedation. At Lane Family Dental, we provide you with a calm, relaxing environment to ease your anxieties. In addition to our gentle, compassionate chairside manner, we provide sedation for our more anxious patients. We offer a variety of sedation methods so that your visit will be as relaxing and enjoyable as possible.

For your safety, we require a review of your health history and a list of all medications and supplements you may be taking. We ask about such habits as smoking or alcohol consumption. These things play a role in the type of sedation medication we can offer. If you are a good candidate for sedation, we will explain the steps required before your visit to prepare for your procedure. Our sedation patients go through a thorough screening for their health and safety. Contact Lane Family Dental today to schedule a consultation about sedation dentistry.

Oral Conscious Sedation

Oral Conscious Sedation

One type of sedation we offer is called oral conscious sedation. With this method you receive a pill before your dental procedure is to be performed. Once the medication takes effect, we begin the procedure. Oral conscious sedation will comfortably relax you, however, you will remain conscious. Occasionally, some patients become so relaxed with this sedation method that they doze while we perform their dental procedure.

With oral conscious sedation it will be necessary to have someone available to drive you home after your procedure. You may still be too drowsy to drive or operate machinery after your dental work is completed.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous Oxide

One of the most popular methods of sedation is nitrous oxide. This method, also known as laughing gas, has been around for over a century. This method of sedation has no lasting effects. Oxygen and nitrous oxide are administered at the beginning of the procedure. This puts you into a relaxed state of mind. When your dental work is finished, your system will be flooded with oxygen to clear out the nitrous oxide and you will recover quickly.

Do not let fear of the dentist keep you from getting the oral care you need to have a healthy mouth. Call Lane Family Dental and find out more about our sedation dentistry options.
